TomTom releases 2020 traffic data, shows obvious Covid-19 drop

The TomTom Traffic Index breaks down traffic in 416 cities across 57 countries and outlines the impact of lockdowns, stay-at-home orders and curfews as the vast majority of countries reported significant congestion drops.

The months with the greatest traffic drops mirror the reported waves of increased reported cases with April seeing the largest overall drop. TomTom reported that they saw an approximate 21% reduction in traffic in 2020, compared to 2019. During rush hour, traffic was down an approximate 28%.

The report goes further into the pandemic’s effect on peak times, urban to rural traffic, mobility pattern changes (including hours of travel) and more. Access the data and the analysis here
