North Carolina duo try to defraud insurer by ditching trunk into the water

Two men from Engelhard are out on bond as they allegedly attempted to gain a $12,458.48 fraudulent payout from the insurer, Sentry Insurance.

The arrest warrant states that the Ford F-350 was found at the Engelhard Wildlife Boat Ramp and Access Area as the insured reported the vehicle stolen. Although the event happened in late August, the duo were arrested last week and released on bond.

Insurance fraud remains a serious issue in most jurisdictions, which is why the North Carolina insurance commissioner has doubled the number of agents responsible for investigating potential crimes. A crime which reportedly accounts for 20% of insurance moneys collected.
